Over Land is an intimate and personal portrait of the Sudermans as they face the end of their family farm. Squeezed between the rising costs of production and diminishing returns due to climate change, Richard Suderman has to get bigger or get out. This reality is not lost on Mike who is helping his dad with the last harvest, and thinks farmers are competing against themselves. His brother Chris is a licensed commercial pilot and torn when he takes to the sky to dust the crops. He wants to raise a family without being away, so tries raising naturally-raised pigs in a shed on the farm. They are all trying so hard but just as the strain is visible, so is their love for the land. This is the Canadian farm in crisis captured by the third son, Steven. The local bakery has up a ``fair trade for farmers fund`` -- maybe we should be doing this on a national level.
